Books and Manuscripts
The collection, which includes various genres and subjects, is kept both in the library and the archive. Of particular note are the manuscript documents, which are an important repository of materials, they include correspondence, reports, and press clippings related to the circumstances in the Philippines. This collection is crucial to understanding the situation in the Phillippines during the last third of the 19th century. It is considered one of the most valuable Spanish archives in the country, comparable to prestigious institutions such as the National Historical Archive of Spain and the General Archive of the Indies.
Objects
The museum’s collection is mainly composed of weaponry and ethnographic objects, but the exact count of objects is difficult to determine due to gaps and errors in the inventories. There are currently over 400 objects, including artefacts from the Philippines (Luzon, Mindanao, and Sulu), the Caroline Islands, and the Palau Islands. Many items in the collection come from the 1887 General Exhibition of the Philippine Islands in Madrid, promoted by Víctor Balaguer. Contributions from other colonial-era figures also form part of the collection.
