Pieces

The vast majority of the specimens analysed here can be classified as specimens belonging to the malacological fauna and the arthropod family. However, in some cases, the presence of species from the mammal and reptile families, such as deer, turtles, and caimans, stands out.

Origin

Most of these specimens come from the Philippine regions of Mindanao and Jolo. Information available on their origin and how they were acquired is scarce and sketchy. The vast majority were donated between 1895 and 1897. Among the most notable donors were Salvador de Samà Torrents, known as the ‘Marquis of Marianao’, the military man and pharmacist Francisco Dandí Aulí, and the naturalist Artur Bofill i Poch.
