Pieces
The volume of collections at the Natural Sciences Museum of Barcelona is currently unmanageable. For this reason, in the first phase of the research, we have focused on the study of the Guinean chordate collection, of which we have 509 records, of the more than 34,000 specimens contained in the entire chordate collection.
Origin
The most notable collections are those from the 1919 expedition of Martínez de la Escalera, which represents 80% of the volume, followed by donations to the La Salle Gracia Museum (7%). Around 3% of the specimens are of apparently unknown origin, and another 3% correspond to donations from other collectors, including well-known figures such as the Marquis of Comillas, Salvador Escuté, and the Marquis of Marianao.
It is worth noting the presence of birds, bats, rodents, and cuculiforms, preserved as study skins in more than 75% of the cases. The rest are whole animals, skulls, and other body parts.
