Pieces
The collection includes at least 83 pieces of African origin, most of which were acquired from European merchants and collectors at internationally renowned auction houses. Among the African objects, there is a diverse collection of shields, Ekoi heads, and shoes from an Ashanti king.
Origin
The Museum of Leather Art in Vic houses the collection of works that the leather businessman Andreu Colomer i Munmany (Vic, 1913-2008) gathered throughout his life. With leather as the common denominator, the Colomer i Munmany collection includes pieces from very diverse origins.
On one hand, a significant portion of the collection is of European origin and consists of ancient objects crafted using gilded and polychrome leather techniques (guadamassil) and goat leather (cordovan), applied to murals, altars, boxes, and trunks.
On the other hand, Colomer i Munmany acquired objects from around the world during his travels, some of which were sourced from colonised territories, such as the former Moroccan protectorate or the newly independent Nigeria, where he established a branch of his company.
